Exciting Pirate Workshops!
Discover the truth behind piracy in the Caribbean, and other places, with one of our interactive Pirate workshops. Learn to talk, walk and sail like a Pirate with replica artifacts, drama, role play, games and hands-on activities. Avast ye, me hearties! Shiver me timbers! We’re all familiar with the Hollywood image of the cunning pirate, stealing treasure, outwitting the British navy and winning our hearts with his rakish charm – but what’s the real story? Were pirates truly rogues with a heart of gold, or were they simply ruthless killers who would do anything to get their reward?
Workshops can be run on specific topics or combined to cover the whole period. Topics covered could include:
- Pick your pirate name!
- Join the crew of a pirate ship and receive the ‘black spot’
- X marks the spot: Map reading and treasure hunting
- Life on the ocean wave: swabbing the decks, and barrels o’ grog!
- Food and drink on board a ship
- Landlubbers & salty old sea dogs
- Avast, me hearties! Learn to talk like a pirate
- Piratical clothing
- Vicious villain or charming scoundrel? Who were the real pirates?
- Cannons, blunderbuss and cutlass training
- Singing sea shanties together as we row a boat or do hard work together
- Hauling on ropes to raise the sails.
- Punishments on board: walking the plank, Keelhauled, Floggings, Cat o’ 9 tails
- Artefact handling including Pieces of Eight & Spanish Doubloons

What we do:
- Bring a wide range of artefacts – either originals or accurate replicas
- Dress up as a historically accurate character for the day
- Provide a bespoke timetable that fits with your particular learning objectives
- Bring almost all the equipment and materials for our activities

Break
- What was Pirate treasure
- Pirate artefacts and weapons display
Lunch
- Pirate fact or fiction game
- All aboard the good ship, St Barts!
What we need:
- A Hall
- At least two staff members and a minimum of one for every 30 children
- A couple of tables to display
- A place to get changed
- Suitable parking close to the hall
